Platner Table and Bertoia Chair Platner Dining Table with Bertoia Side Chairs
Knoll Platner Table and Bertoia Chair Designed by Warren Platner and Harry Bertoia In the midst of the modern design movement in the 1960s, Warren Platner turned a simple concept -- transforming steel wire into a unique and supremely modern sculptural furniture collection -- into a creative masterpiece: the Platner Table series. This classic table will surely make quite a statement as the focal point of your dining room. Having worked for Charles and Ray Eames and Hans and Florence Knoll, Harry Bertoia garnered icon status as a designer when he created the Bertoia Collection for Knoll in 1952. Italian-born, Bertoia utilized his superior skills as a sculptor to bend and shape industrial wire rods into chairs that would become pinnacles of twentieth century furniture design. Now considered modern classics, the collection was so commercially successful that it allowed Bertoia to dedicate himself exclusively to his main artistic passion: sculpting. His awards include the craftsmanship medal from the American Institute of Architects, as well as AIA's Gold Medal. THE DESIGN | FEATURES AT A GLANCE | DIMENSIONS | ORDER WITH CONFIDENCE The Design Decorative, gentle and graceful, the Platner Dining Table is truly one of a kind. An elegant latecomer to the mid-century modern movement, this table works in virtually limitless settings thanks to a diverse array of tabletop options. In addition, a metallic bronze base finish is now available alongside the original polished nickel finish, while a bronzed glass top option has been added to further expand its applications. Harry Bertoia's 1950 experiment with bending metal rods into practical art produced a revered collection of seating, including this side chair. Innovative, comfortable, and strikingly handsome, the Bertoia Side Chair's delicate filigree appearance belies its strength and durability. The Bertoia Side Chair's frame is available in Polished or Satin Chrome or six durable powder coat colors

Florence Knoll Sofa

Florence Knoll Sofa
Knoll 1205 Designed by Florence Knoll Considered a seminal leader of 20th-century design, Florence Knoll grew up among designers. In partnership with her husband, Hans, she championed the Bauhaus approach to furniture design at Knoll: to offer objects that reflect design, technological innovation and mass production. Her intellect and keen eye brought Knoll to the forefront of modern design, thus creating the legacy that continues today. THE DESIGN | FEATURES AT A GLANCE | DIMENSIONS | ORDER WITH CONFIDENCE The Design As a pioneer of the Knoll Planning Unit, Florence Knoll created what she modestly referred to as the fill-in pieces that no one else wants to do. She refers to her own line of lounge seating as the equivalent of meat and potatoes, asserting, I needed the piece of furniture for a job and it wasnt there, so I designed it. Like so many of her ground-breaking designs that set the industrys gold standard, the 1954 Lounge collection has made it into the pantheon of modern classics. Consistent with all of Knolls designs, the Lounge collection has a spare, angular profile that reflects the objective perfectionism of modern design in the early 1960s. This sofa is perfect for both formal and casual settings, including reception areas, universities, museums and private homes. Upholstery is available in quality leather for a classic look, or in dozens of both bright and neutral fabric options for a more casual space.
