New England Charm

A recent post by Ann of Hill Country House reminded me to pick up the current issue of New England Home while I was in Cape Cod. It was full of great homes and this Connecticut house by Boston based designer Charles Spada caught my eye. The green in this library is so refreshing. The article mentioned that this green is the one chosen twenty years earlier when Spada first worked with these clients. (all photography by Bruce Buck, article by Stacy Kuntz)

Painted Books & More from Boston's Hudson

Today I'm blogging from the gorgeous kitchen of Debra of 5th and State as preparations are being made for tonight's WOW event. Can't wait to show you pics of her AGA cooker. I just visited her fabulous store, Scentimental Gardens in Geneva, Il, and am excited to post pictures of it when I get back to Washington. In the meantime, here are images from my visit last week to a favorite Boston store, Hudson.


Loved this alternative to covering books in paper - paint them instead!

Back in 2008 when I visited they had a huge collage wall of vintage letters and photos (see here). The display is now gone but here are some select pieces enlarged and framed.



Did you know Albert & Dash makes terrific, reasonably priced throws? I didn't until I saw these.

Beacon Hill Window Boxes, Planters & a Crushing Tree

I assume residents of Beacon Hill get accustomed to visitors gawking at the architecture and the beauty of this neighborhood. Similar to Charleston, you find something worthy of a photo every few steps.
Love this spa blue door.







The planter is almost as big as the door.
From the curtains to the bust - so Boston!

Last Sunday Boston was under an unusual tornado warning. 68 mph winds whipped through the area, downing many trees, including this one that lodged itself up against a church.
After all that excitement, I indulged in this hot chestnut puree w/whipped cream concoction. So very good!
