The conscious decision to extend the component wood sticks above the height of the shelves themselves accentuates their sense of movement – they seem to be still growing beyond the main structures. In some cases, small offshoot branches are clipped away from the core and still show in the finished products.
While the bookcase designs seem rustic and recycled there is also a sense that they would fit alongside contemporary art in a gallery just as well as they would as pieces of remote cabin. All in all they are also a very sustainable design, requiring relatively little material work on top of the found objects of which they are made – and there is a strange elegance to the recycled boxes forming the shelves.

Carpanelli is an Italian company whose objective is to transform any living space into a contemporary interior that fits the customer’s way of being. Sillhouete is one of their most recent home products, designed for luxurious interiors and users with a passion for the industry trends. Its sinuous lines and slender overall look make it a very intriguing furniture addition. Moreover, this seemingly small cupboard (50×45x156h cm) hides plenty of available storage space. Sillhouete features shelves, niches and drawers that are not noticeable at a first glance. On the exterior the drawers are embedded with ebony and mother of pearl in order to create the lavish effect.

These rooms-in-a-box do not come cheap. Plan to pay about $10,000 for one of these convertible interior sets. Still, the idea of being able to store your entire kitchen, office and/or bedroom in a simple and movable set of sleek boxes is an attractive one. In short, you could store your entire apartment interior in a mid-sized closet.

From a style perspective, these units are relatively simple and modern and supposedly build on a long set of aesthetic traditions. From a space perspective, a surprising amount of storage and functionality are packed into a relatively small unit. Compact but comfortable, you can cook, eat, work and sleep if you collect all three!
