Curvilinear Wood Bookcase Systems by Peter Marigold

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Peter Marigold was educated in product design, art and sculpture – and it shows in these strangely compelling curvilinear wood bookcase systems. Each set of bookshelves is of course completely unique, created from found twigs and remnant boxes and packing materials.
The conscious decision to extend the component wood sticks above the height of the shelves themselves accentuates their sense of movement – they seem to be still growing beyond the main structures. In some cases, small offshoot branches are clipped away from the core and still show in the finished products.
While the bookcase designs seem rustic and recycled there is also a sense that they would fit alongside contemporary art in a gallery just as well as they would as pieces of remote cabin. All in all they are also a very sustainable design, requiring relatively little material work on top of the found objects of which they are made – and there is a strange elegance to the recycled boxes forming the shelves.

Luxurious Cupboard With Things to Hide

Sunday, April 18, 2010

Carpanelli is an Italian company whose objective is to transform any living space into a contemporary interior that fits the customer’s way of being. Sillhouete is one of their most recent home products, designed for luxurious interiors and users with a passion for the industry trends. Its sinuous lines and slender overall look make it a very intriguing furniture addition. Moreover, this seemingly small cupboard (50×45x156h cm) hides plenty of available storage space. Sillhouete features shelves, niches and drawers that are not noticeable at a first glance. On the exterior the drawers are embedded with ebony and mother of pearl in order to create the lavish effect.

Leather Benches for the Home

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

These decorative leather benches were winners of a Design Award in 2008. The product is called "Plasma". There are three sizes of the bench that differ in length from shorter to longer. Further, there is another variation where the shape itself can be reversed creating a choice as to which side the deepest portion of the bench will appear.

Entire Room Interiors in Small Boxes

Friday, April 9, 2010

These rooms-in-a-box do not come cheap. Plan to pay about $10,000 for one of these convertible interior sets. Still, the idea of being able to store your entire kitchen, office and/or bedroom in a simple and movable set of sleek boxes is an attractive one. In short, you could store your entire apartment interior in a mid-sized closet.

From a style perspective, these units are relatively simple and modern and supposedly build on a long set of aesthetic traditions. From a space perspective, a surprising amount of storage and functionality are packed into a relatively small unit. Compact but comfortable, you can cook, eat, work and sleep if you collect all three!

Colico and Living Room Sofas

Thursday, April 8, 2010

Coins, odds and ends .. these things we expect to find under the sofa cushions, but these days color-changing LEDs seem to be just as common as pocket change. Taken to the extreme the idea becomes particularly fascinating: what if we simply built all of our lighting into the home furniture and furnishings around us … would we even need normal light fixtures?
With a lit pattern for every occasion, these sectional sofas flip from one colorful display setting to the next at the push of a button. Display options include abstract modern patterns and contemporary floral prints while the colors can shift through the spectrum from simple white through subtle purple, bright blue and a seductive dark red. Modules can even display different designs and/or color schemes at the same time side by side.
Whether this convertible, color-changing functionality from Colico will work as a conversation piece of worry your potential date is another question entirely. Still, whether it is the next style trend or simply an experiment there is something to be said for literally weaving illumination into the fabrics of our everyday lives

The Mondrian Sideboard comes from Boca Do Lobo

Monday, March 22, 2010

The Mondrian Sideboard comes from Boca Do Lobo and caught our attention due to its diversity, artsy feel and glamorous looks. We found out that the carvings and models on the sideboards reunite a variety of artistic styles and the materials used are also diverse. Lacquer, leather and glass are just some of the designer’s options for the finishing touch. A large part of the products was handcrafted, which gives it even more originality. This is perhaps the reason for the limited edition items. The designers stated that this furniture “is an exclusive emotional experience, a sense of belonging and a state of mind.

The Asian modern furniture is quite popular in the western world today. Its something modern tones make it a great decoration theme for a bedroom. Whether you choose to decorate your bedroom in the Asian style or use this theme in another bedroom in your home, it is important to add the right bedding. Our tips on Asian bedding will help you choose something you'll love.

Many companies are selling Asian modern furniture these days. The theme is very versatile and work great for almost any modern furniture in any home. When looking for Asian bedding, consider the colors first. Are you looking for something with rich, dark Asian colors or a more neutral feel? Asian colors can vary from natural green and beige bamboo to white and pink floral, to the richer Chinese red's and gold's. You have many color options in this category.

In addition, Asian modern furniture is often very rich in texture. The environmental richness in the Asian world lend a variety of textural designs to the theme. You may choose a rich silk brocade fabric for a dramatic room, much like a luxurious kimono. Or perhaps a lighter bamboo and reed styling is more what you are looking for. Take these things into consideration when shopping for Asian furniture.

Consider accenting your Asian furniture investment with Asian style furniture. This will really pull your bedroom together. A bed made of reed or lattice will really accentuate your bamboo craft furniture choice. Or add a lovely Japanese-style screen to really drive your theme home.
